Homeowners Julia and Kevin K. tell their story
We have had Kleinco work on our home twice. The first project was a second-story addition to our one-story home in Maple Ridge. The new, 1,200-square-foot space includes two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a laundry room, and new closets. The work began in February 2000 and was completed in July of that year. We actually consulted with Kleinco before purchasing the home to determine if the addition would be feasible.
Although we were extremely pleased with the speed of the remodel, the quality of the work, and the wonderful courtesy demonstrated by every member of the Kleinco team, we decided that our next project—remodeling our small garage apartment—didn’t justify the expense of Kleinco, so we hired an independent contractor. The project began in September 2003 and was scheduled to be completed by that Thanksgiving. Well, two Thanksgivings have come and gone, and we still have an unfinished garage apartment. You live and learn.
That’s why when it came time to remodel our kitchen, we called the one company we trusted: Kleinco. Kleinco has the best reputation for incorporating a home’s classic features into the new design, so everything looks original when it is done. We had a fairly functional kitchen, but we were not able to adequately utilize some of the surrounding spaces. Kleinco combined our galley kitchen with our mudroom and merged this space with the breakfast room, creating an open, airy kitchen. While they were there, the Kleinco craftsmen created more living space in our den by opening up the doorway to an adjacent room. This project started shortly after Labor Day, and it was 95 percent complete by Thanksgiving.
Both of our experiences with Kleinco have been 100 percent positive. They seriously care about a home as much as the homeowner. As far as the day-to-day interaction with everyone on the Kleinco team, it could not have been better. Most people who have done any amount of remodeling to their home have a horror story or two about temperamental carpenters, runaway budgets, deadlines missed by a mile, or all of the above. The little things the Kleinco people do—calling well ahead of time to tell us when the water would be shut off, going out of their way to respect our privacy—are just as important as the quality of the finished project.
I would certainly recommend Kleinco to anyone who insists upon quality work by people who respect your home as much as you do. And a word of advice to first-time remodelers: do your homework. Get all of the references you can, good and bad. Once you find a good contractor, stick with them. It’s better to pay for someone you know and trust than to try to cut corners to save a few bucks. You’ll end up getting more than your money’s worth in the long run because quality work only adds to the value of your home.
